Maison Margiela Fall 2026: Rebecca Hall Faces Her Double

Rebecca Hall steps into a psychological thriller for Maison Margiela’s Fall 2026 campaign, starring as an actress confronted by an eerie double concealed behind the house’s signature haute couture masks.

Titled “Anonymity” , the two-minute film draws on the visual language of psychological cinema, blending suspense, surrealism, and dark humor. Directed as a fictional movie trailer, the campaign evokes the unsettling atmospheres associated with filmmakers such as Dario Argento, Brian De Palma, and David Lynch—references Hall herself recognized in the project.

“I liked that it was bold and original, but also referenced cinema,” Hall said. “I felt influences of Argento, De Palma, and Lynch.”

The actress plays a public figure locked in a confrontation with her masked counterpart, turning the tension between visibility and disappearance into the film’s central theme. For Hall, the premise resonated with the contradictions of life in the public eye.

“There’s always a strange battle between your identity as a public figure and the desire to disappear,” she said. “I liked that the film took that idea to its archetypal extreme.”

The campaign embraces the surreal and the unsettling. A television screen appears to bleed, a translucent substance emerges from Hall’s mouth, and ghostly figures seem to materialize from wardrobes. Against this nightmarish imagery, her double appears in masks from Maison Margiela’s “Artisanal” collection, created for the house’s Fall 2026 show in Shanghai.

The masks were among the defining elements of the April runway, which was staged among towering stacks of shipping containers. Their appearance in the film transforms them from couture objects into instruments of disguise, reinforcing the collection’s fascination with identity and anonymity.

Released alongside the arrival of the Fall 2026 collection in stores and online, the campaign continues Maison Margiela’s long-running relationship with cinematic storytelling, particularly its darker and more unsettling side. The house previously explored similar territory with “A Folk Horror Tale”, its 2021 “Artisanal” haute couture film.

For Hall, the collaboration also represents a natural meeting of fashion and her own filmography. Known for roles in “The Prestige” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”, she has also explored psychological horror in “The Awakening” and “The Night House”.

With “Anonymity”, Maison Margiela turns its Fall 2026 campaign into something more than a fashion film: a stylish meditation on identity, disguise, and the unsettling possibility of confronting another version of yourself.
