Thom Browne Spring 2027 Collection

For Spring 2027, Thom Browne turned fashion into an elaborate study of insects, metamorphosis, and transformation, taking inspiration from Disney’s A Bug’s Life and translating its playful world into one of his most theatrical collections yet.

Presented at The Shed in New York, the show unfolded across an artificial grass runway covered in earth, surrounded by oversized branches, leaves, and a single giant daisy. The setting established a miniature ecosystem in which Browne’s sharply tailored universe could evolve into something far more fantastical.

The transformation began with models dressed as caterpillars, wearing sheer dance skirts and anatomical bodysuits in shades of gray. One model entered a chrysalis at the center of the runway, introducing the collection’s central idea: life as a continuous process of transformation.

Browne’s signature manipulation of proportion provided the framework. His precise tailoring was covered with embroidered dragonflies, ants, caterpillars, moths, flies, and beetles, often accompanied by the flowers and habitats associated with them. A yellow tweed skirt suit, for example, featured a long-stemmed sunflower and embroidered bee, while another look was covered in sculptural moss cascading from the bodice.

The insect references became increasingly three-dimensional. Enormous couture silhouettes took the shapes of beetle and ladybug shells and butterfly wings, their rounded forms covered in intricate embroidery. Browne singled out the ladybug as one of his favorite pieces, while smaller accessories continued the theme through colorful caterpillar-shaped bags and shoes decorated with three-dimensional leather butterfly wings and insect-inspired details.

Sequined flies, dragonflies, and moths appeared to flutter across pleated skirts and coats. Ants embroidered in gold and traced in red and black moved across tailored silhouettes, while oversized butterfly motifs formed intricate mosaics through embroidery.

The most sculptural looks translated insect anatomy directly into clothing. Corsets and narrow skirts suggested protective shells and segmented bodies through interwoven and manipulated panels of fabric, turning the architecture of the insect into a form of couture construction.

The palette eventually shifted into a brief sequence of entirely black looks as Metallica’s “Moth Into Flame” filled the space. Then came the final transformation: the caterpillars returned as butterflies, dressed in low-waisted pleated skirts with asymmetric hems and high-neck bodysuits.

The finale introduced Browne’s queen—a dramatic figure framed by intarsia wings, wearing a cropped double-faced silk duchesse satin jacket, padded silk velvet corset, and long jacquard skirt layered with asymmetric pleats.

For more than two decades, Browne has treated classic tailoring as a language capable of constant reinvention. Spring 2027 pushed that idea to its most literal extreme, transforming suits into shells, embroidery into ecosystems, and the runway into a stage for metamorphosis.
